Declassified
Take three orchestral musicians, twelve young people with a wide range of musical interests, a band of hi-tech interactive musicians, some amazing innovative software, a sound artist and a web developer, connect them up to a large PA system and shut them in a converted church/night club for two days: what do you think the resulting music will sound like? Well it won't be what we usually think of as 'classical' music anyway. That's was the plan for 'Declassified' - this unique combination of musical and technological talent not only aimed to produce amazing music in innovative ways, but to generate out of the material produced during the project a musical gift for Electric December, the world's foremost online community arts festival.
I Am The Mighty Jungulator
I Am The Mighty Jungulator is an amazing piece of software for manipulating sounds.The picture opposite shows how a Jungulator 'pod' looks on the computer screen with one sound sample loaded and playing. A Jungulator playing musician can work with numerous pods simultaneously and switch rapidly between many different sound samples whilst constantly altering the way they play and interract. The result can be amazing textures of sounds evolving and interacting together and when mixed with live musicians you have the potential to create incredibly dynamic, interesting music to which it is still possible to dance - most unusual for cutting edge contemporary art! ...[more]
Project Background
The Philharmonia Orchestra has been visiting Bristol to perform at Colston Hall for many years but last year a more formal partnership with the city was announced. The new partnership centres on the Orchestra's artistic collaboration with the city's major arts venues: Watershed, Colston Hall and St George's Bristol. In addition to more frequent visits from the Orchestra in future, there will be an increasing number of innovative music education projects, which the Orchestra has a great deal of experience in running.
