Wav & MP3
Digital music comes in a wide variety of file types and samples or finished tracks often have to be changed from one type to another in order to be able to work with them.
The original dance track is a wav file and most studio software uses these because they are very high quality, but they are mostly too large for sharing on the internet. So the examples in this Sample Story have all been MP3 files, which are much smaller in size and the difference in quality is minimal.
Streaming
Although MP3s download quickly, when creating music for listening online, longer tracks will need to be converted into a streaming media format. The Sound Exchange uses Quicktime, so below is a version of the finished track as a Quicktime streaming movie (mov):
Converting Files
This is the software that was used to convert the sound files to and from wav and mp3 formats. dbpoweramp is a free and can convert between many audio types: mp3, mp4, Windows Media Audio (wma), Ogg Vorbis, AAC, Monkeys Audio, FLAC.
